Crab With The Golden Claws
Those crazy Belgians! In the 1940’s writer/illustrator Herge’ came up with The Adventures of Tintin, a cub reporter, and the comic strip book series became wildly successful. (Perhaps this character was inspired by Jimmy Olson of The Daily Planet.) One of Tintin’s most famous episodes is “Le Crabe aux pinces d’or” (The Crab with the Golden Claws), involving crabmeat label fragments, kidnapping, opium dealers, a daring escape at sea and a heart-stopping crash landing in the Sahara Desert. This handpainted pillow depicts the crab with the golden claws, carapace, legs and tummy. His colors range from bronze to ochre greenish-gold. Don’t worry, no glitter is involved in this depiction, which is actually quite faithful to a real Dungeness crab, except for the coloration. Measuring 19”x19”x5”, the design has been handpainted on commercial indoor-outdoor fabric and then sewn into a fluffy, comfy pillow for your patio, yacht, deck or rec room. Removable polyester fiberfill insert is machine washable and dryable, and the cover may be spot cleaned, hosed off, or gentle machine washed/air dried. Designed, painted, sewn, stuffed and copyrighted by a crab-loving painter on a small island in Washington State. Worth his weight in gold! | |||||||
