Dungeness Crab Stocking

Hey – be crabby. It’s almost Christmas.

As a matter of fact, many families like to celebrate the season with a big feast of fresh Dungeness crab, considered the crème de la crème of all edible crab.

We amateurs will likely have to wait until summer for our turn, hoping that the shellfish supply has not been decimated by the professionals. Yes, it’s enough to put one in a crabby mood, but the abundant sea is teeming with excellent fish and shellfish. So far, there has been enough to go around, and to spare.

The ginormous crab painted on this 24” long stocking is a lovely shade of holiday red on warm white, lending a festive tone by his mere presence. The cuff is a deep loden green cotton which also lines the interior. The inspiration for this design is an exceptionally attractive Dungeness crab nicknamed “Fabio” (alas, now deceased) who consented to be photographed for posterity, providing it was done artistically. His memory lives on in his likeness . . . and he was delicious!
