Mass production has all but eliminated the rare art of hand-blown glass and as these factories close their doors, their ongoing legacies continue through their collection of cast-iron molds. The combination of sand, lime and soda heated to over 1,000°F creates a molten liquid that is immediately hand-blown into these vintage cast-iron molds. Then the glass lamp bodies are gradually cooled to room temperature.

The bases are then individually hand-painted, meticulously guilded on a manual turn wheel, and fired. If the design incorporates 22k gold banding, the bands are individually applied and fired again.

The final step in the process is assembling and attaching the lighting elements to solid brass bases. Our bases are sourced from a small brass foundry that utilizes a Shine-designed mold. These brass bases each have a custom patina that complements specific lamp bodies.

Our lamps are tested to UL 153 standards to assure that they comply with all industry safety standards.
